The zebra teaches us the beauty in individuality. The zebra's distinctive stripes serve as a protective camouflage against predators, who are often unable to pick an individual out from the herd. For herd members, each zebra's unique stripe patterns has the opposite effect of helping to identify individual zebras. This dynamic animal helps us to both maintain our individuality and be supportive members of our communities. The stripes also represent integration of opposites, enabling us to see a deeper truth.

About the artist:
The Improved Arts Metal Sculpture Project was started in 1986 by five brothers. Having discovered their artistic talents, they founded the group to depict African natural history through metalwork and to make a better living. Old tin cans and other scraps of metal from businesses in the industrial area of Harare are turned into these delightful sculptures by these artists using snips, pliers, and hammers.
