Kudhinda Fabrics was founded by Ros Byrne in 1989. Her aim was to encourage young school leavers to use their talent for colour and design to create beautiful fabrics. She began by training one young woman to print fabric using potato blocks. Since then the company has grown steadily, employing 60 staff, and now incorporates potato printing, screen printing, cutting and sewing departments. Be sure to purchase an insert for the small cushion covers along with this item.
Ros Byrne is the creative energy behind her pottery company, known as Ros Byrne Pottery (and more recently as Kudinda Pottery). She began work as a potter in 1984, and today she designs several collections, including the Ruwa pottery that Mbare carries. The company, which employs over 80 people, produces ceramics of the highest international standards, and each piece is individually painted and signed by the artist. Mbare also carries Kudinda Fabrics, another brainchild of Ros Byrne. The fabric, made of 100% Zimbabwean cotton and high quality German dyes, is hand printed in the traditional patterns and rich colors of southern Africa. |
